Overview

The J.R. Simplot Company reached agreement to make process modifications that will enable greater recovery and reuse of phosphate and processing materials at its Don Plant fertilizer manufacturing facility in Pocatello, Idaho. This proposed settlement provides significant environmental benefits while enabling additional recovery of a key strategic mineral during the manufacturing process. As a part of the proposed settlement, Simplot will provide financial assurance to cover the entire costs of the eventual closure, reclamation, and long-term management of the solid waste by-product (phosphogypsum) generated by the manufacturing process.
