BOISE, Idaho — Many successful people attribute their achievements to teachers who have inspired them. Simplot’s Education Council also recognizes the importance and impact of dedicated teachers. The group is committed to assisting students in Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 achieve excellence in education, enhancing efforts to help students achieve their full academic potential.
For the past 29 years, the Council has presented the Simplot Inspirational Teacher Award in the Pocatello area school district. Any District 25 secondary or elementary teacher in a public school may be nominated for this award.
This year the Council received 2,035 nominations for 379 teachers. Council Members selected 20 finalists based on the teacher’s ability to inspire their students; their use of innovative methods in the classroom; and their impact on students’ life-long skills.
The School District highlighted a finalist each day on their Facebook page leading up to the winner announcement at a school assembly May 6. The Simplot Inspirational Teacher Award of 2022 went to E’liane Khang, a 5th grade teacher at Tyhee Elementary. Khang received $500 in appreciation of her outstanding accomplishment in the education profession. The additional 19 finalists each received $100.
It’s easy to understand why Khang was selected for the award based on what those who nominated her had to say.
“She deserves to win because she is loving, passionate and kind and cares about every student individually,” wrote one former student. “She is the best because she is committed to her students and is flexible on what and how you learn.”
Simplot and its Don Plant are longtime community partners in the Pocatello area. Simplot built the plant—its first fertilizer production facility—in 1944. About 350 people work at the Don Plant in a variety of roles, including plant operations, engineering, instrumentation, environmental science, chemistry, and machining.
